IMPORTANT CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR JAPANESE BLUE STEEL (High Carbon Steel):

Japanese Blue Steel is a high-carbon, reactive steel (not stainless) requiring proper care to prevent rust and maintain its integrity:

  1. Hand Wash Only: Wash immediately after use with mild soap. Never use a dishwasher.
  2. Dry Thoroughly & Immediately: Use a soft cloth to dry completely.
  3. Embrace Patina: A natural patina (darkening) will form; this is normal and protective.
  4. Minimize Acidic Contact: Rinse and dry promptly after cutting acidic foods.
  5. Store Properly: Keep in a dry place (block, magnetic strip, or saya).
  6. Oil for Protection (Recommended): Apply a thin coat of food-grade mineral or camellia oil for storage, especially in humid conditions.
